Später entsprach die Bedeutung die eines &quot;Provinzgouverneurs&quot;. Am Ende des Mongulreiches gründeten zahlreiche Provinzgouverneure Fürstendynastien, die sie eigenständig verwalteten und wofür sie ein Erbrecht besaßen, bewahrten aber den Titel des Nawab bei, um ihren Legitmitätsanspruch zu festigen. Ein anderer Titel unter moslemischen Fürsten war der des Mizams. Fürstentitel wie Raos, Rajas und Maharajas sind nicht moslimischer Herkunft.</div>
