Ein Tropfen Schweiß fiel in den [[Mund]] eines großen [[Fisch]]es. Aus dem Fisch wurde Makardhwaja geboren. <br /> <br /> Eine andere Version erzählt die Geschichte leicht abgewandelt. Als Hanuman, nachdem er Lanka niedergebrannt hatte, ein Bad in einem Teich nahm, verlor er einen Tropfen seines Samens, der in den Mund eines Riesenfisches fiel, dessen Name Makardhvaja war. Der Fisch wurde schwanger. Der Fisch wurde gefangen von [[Ahiravana]], der [[Patala]], eine der niederen [[Welt]]en, regierte. Als Ahiravana den Bauch des Fisches aufschnitt, entdeckte er Makardhwaja, den er nach dem Fisch benannte. Aufgrund seine [[Stärke]] wurde er Torwächter des Königspalastes.<br /> <br /> ==Die Geschichte im Ramayana==<br /> Als Ahiravana [[Rama]] und [[Lakshmana]] nach Patala entführte, folgte ihnen Hanuman um sie zu befreien. Er wurde am Tor von Patala von einem [[Makara]], einem [[Wesen]] halb [[Affe]] halb Fisch, aufgehalten. Der Makara stellte sich als Makardhwaja und Sohn von Hanuman vor. Hanuman war belustigt und sprach, er könne nicht sein Sohn sein, da er unverheiratet sei. Doch Hanuman schloss die Augen, ging in tiefe [[Meditation]] und sah die Geburt so wie Makardhwaja sie beschrieb.<br /> <br /> Makardhvaja bat Hanuman um seinen [[Segen]]. Dennoch musste Hanuman gegen ihn kämpfen, um Patala betreten zu können, da Makardhwaja seinen Ziehvater, Ahiravana, nicht verraten wollte. Hanuman besiegte Makardhwaja, fesselte ihn, tötet Ahiravana und befreite Rama und Lakshmana. Auf Wunsch von Rama machte Hanuman Makardhwaja zum [[König]] von Patala, dann ging er zurück nach [[Lanka]] und setzte den Kampf mit Ravana fort.<br /> <br /> ==Die Kriegerfamilie Jethva==<br /> Die Kriegerfamilie der Jethvas sieht sich als Abkömmlinge von Makardhwaja. Nach ihren Erzählungen hatte Makardhwaja einen Sohn mit Namen Moddhvaja und dieser hatte einen Sohn mit [[Name]]n Jethidhvaja. Die Jethvas beziehen sich auf Jethidhvaja und verehren Hanuman als ihre persönliche Gottheit. Die Jethva Dynastie von Porbandar hat aus diesem Grund das Abbild Hanumans in ihrer Flagge.</div>
